George Tucker (politician)


George Tucker was an American attorney, politician, historian, author, and educator. His literary works include the first fiction of colonial life in Virginia and another which is among the nations earliest science fictions. Tucker also published the first comprehensive biography of Thomas Jefferson, as well as a history of the United States.

He was born the son of the mayor of Hamilton, Bermuda, immigrated to Virginia from there at age 20, was educated at the College of William and Mary, and was admitted to the bar. His first marriage ended with the death of his childless wife Mary Farley in 1799 he remarried and had six children with wife Maria Carter, who died at agein 1823. His third wife, ofyears, was Louisa Thompson who died in 1858.
